A few simple ways to embrace Transformation for The New Year.
Ok, let’s call January a tester month, shall we? My new year is officially beginning with February. I’m not sure what it is about this month, but I tend to feel extra inspired & excited to set goals for the coming year. While I’m not one to make ‘new year’s resolutions’ (although perhaps I should cut the alcohol), I am a proponent of constant self-improvement. ‘New year, new me’ and all that jazz…

I couldn’t agree more. Although, that wasn’t always the case. I used to be the girl that rolled out of bed 20 minutes before I had to do anything and make a poor, lethargic effort due to sheer exhaustion. Now, I make a conscious effort to go to sleep earlier and wake up with some time to get a workout in, shimmy around to my favorite good morning tunes and eat a little something. I cannot explain what a difference this makes to my entire day. In today’s world there are so many external factors that can hijack and warp the rest of the day which is why I’m such a big believer in the power of mornings and getting sh*t done before the world rushes in.
P.s. make your bed in the morning – it brings a sense of accomplishment and motivation.
I think 2020 inspired us all to learn a new skill during the 9-month lockdown we faced. With this being extended through the new year, it is an even better time to pick back up whatever skill you started back in March 2020, whether it’s perfecting that banana bread or being the next biggest thing on tik tok. Some days it can feel like we are reliving the same day over and over again and become set in our ways and feel a sense of comfort from that. I’m taking on the 7-day vegan challenge to become more advanced in plant-based cooking. I’ll keep you all updated on that one…
Similarly, to your morning routine, your environment can have a large influence on your mood and how you choose to face the day. The day that you choose to deep clean your apartment, including everything from scrubbing the skirting boards with a toothbrush (disclaimer: I once actually did this during the initial lockdown) to shampooing the carpets, you’re like “damn, why didn’t I do this before?! Now I never want to leave”. Take this opportunity to look around your apartment and make some small changes to make it an all-around more pleasant space.

February also happens to be the month where I attack my wardrobe to convince myself to throw away those god-awful pair of jeans from 5 years ago that I will definitely fit into after my next diet…
Yeah right.
We are still close enough to the beginning of the year for you to sit down and visualize which parts of your life to you want to live and which parts you’re happy to leave behind. I’m not sure we ever really put enough emphasis on how your choice of clothing on a particular day can affect what happens after you close the wardrobe. That fashion choice can reinforce your identity.

I think that everyone has their ideal ways to give back, whether it is volunteering, donating or teaching but the feeling of satisfaction from a selfless act is a feeling that remains unmatched. Travel Tribe, I challenge you to set aside one day each month to volunteer and give back in some way. Ironically, when we give of ourselves, we remember how much we truly have and feel the power of the human spirit. This one idea alone can lead to a big shift in your perspective.
